Handled

Terms and Conditions

Effective date: Sep 14, 2026 · Last updated: Sep 20, 2026

Welcome to Handled. These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Handled ("Handled," "we," "us," or "our") governing your use of the Handled app, website, and related services (together, the "Service"). Please read them carefully. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our privacy practices.

Plain-language summary (not a substitute for the full Terms): Handled helps you capture, organize, and get reminders about your documents, money, appointments, and records. Your files stay in storage you control; we keep only small metadata. Handled uses AI, which can make mistakes, so always review suggestions before relying on them. Handled is not a lawyer, doctor, accountant, or financial adviser, and nothing in the Service is legal, medical, tax, or financial advice.

1.Agreement to these Terms

By accessing or using the Service you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of a household or family, you confirm you are authorized to accept these Terms for the people you add.

2.Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create a Handled account. The Service is intended for personal and household use by adults. Do not allow a child under 13 to create or use an account. If you add documents about family members (including children), you confirm you have the right to store and manage that information.

3.The Service

Handled lets you capture documents (by photo or by forwarding email to a private Handled address), and helps you organize, search, budget, and receive reminders across categories such as finances and receipts, devices and warranties, insurance, appointments, and personal records. Features, categories, and availability may change, and some features may be offered only on paid plans. Paid plans include a set number of AI document scans each month; the limits are shown before you subscribe.

4.Your content and your storage

You own your content. You keep all rights to the documents, images, text, and other materials you add ("Your Content").

Where it goes. Handled files Your Content into your own cloud storage (for example Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive), inside a single folder Handled creates there. That storage is your account, held under your agreement with that provider, and Handled stores only limited metadata about Your Content (such as categories, dates, tags, file references, and cryptographic hashes and timestamps) to provide the Service. Handled needs a connected cloud account before it can file anything for you.

Limited license. You grant Handled a limited, non-exclusive license to access, process, display, and organize Your Content solely to operate and improve the Service for you, and as you direct (for example, to sort a document or generate a reminder). We do not sell Your Content, and we do not use the contents of your documents to train third-party advertising systems.

Your responsibility. You are responsible for keeping your own backups of Your Content and for your storage and email provider accounts. Handled is not a backup service of last resort.

Your Handled folder. When you connect your own cloud storage, Handled creates and manages a single folder (the "Handled folder") inside it, and needs continued, unchanged access to that folder to find, file, and update Your Content there. If you rename, move, or delete that folder, disconnect your storage account, or edit, move, or remove files inside it other than through the Service, Handled may lose track of the affected content, and some features (filing, reminders, tagging) may stop working correctly for those items until access is restored. Handled does not take ownership of your storage and claims no control over your cloud account. Where a storage provider supports it, Handled may mark files it manages as protected against accidental edits from outside the Service; this is a convenience feature, not a guarantee, and Handled does not use it to restrict your ability to view, copy, or export Your Content.

5.AI features and no professional advice

Handled uses artificial intelligence to read, summarize, classify, and suggest actions for your documents. AI can make mistakes, miss things, or misread a document. Suggestions, summaries, categories, reminders, and extracted dates are provided for convenience only and may be inaccurate or incomplete. Always review AI output and verify important details yourself before relying on them.

Handled is not a professional adviser. Nothing in the Service is legal, medical, tax, accounting, insurance, or financial advice, and Handled does not provide professional services or act as a fiduciary. The Service is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional. Do not rely on Handled for decisions that require professional judgment, and never disregard or delay professional advice because of something in the Service.

6.Appointments and task lists

Handled can keep your appointments and let you create optional task lists to help you get ready for them. Handled does not keep or interpret medication or pre-procedure instructions, does not generate medical advice, and does not diagnose, treat, or recommend any course of care. AI can make mistakes and may misread or mis-schedule an item, so it is your responsibility to confirm that your appointment details are accurate before saving them, and to follow the instructions a professional actually gave you. Handled is not liable for errors in AI-generated or user-entered details.

Handled lets you preserve and organize your own records (such as screenshots, emails, and messages) and can store a timestamp and a cryptographic hash of an item so you have a time-stamped, tamper-evident copy, and can export a "Records Pack" to share with a professional.

Important: Handled does not provide legal services or legal advice, does not determine whether anything is admissible in any proceeding, and does not guarantee that any record will be accepted by a court, agency, insurer, or other body. Tamper-evidence means we can help show an item has not changed since it was added to Handled; it is not a guarantee of authenticity, origin, or legal effect. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to capture, store, and use any content, and for using these features lawfully. If you have a legal matter, consult a qualified attorney.

8.Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

9.Plans, free trials, billing and cancellation

Plans. Handled offers a limited free trial and paid subscriptions (for example, monthly and annual options). Prices, features, and limits are shown in the app at the time you subscribe.

Free trial. Handled's free trial does not require a payment method and never converts to a paid subscription automatically. When it ends, you decide whether to subscribe. The trial's length and any usage limits are disclosed to you before you start.

Auto-renewal. Paid subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the then-current price, until you cancel. Where required, we will send a renewal reminder before you are charged.

How to cancel. You can cancel at any time in the app. Cancellation stops future charges; it takes effect at the end of the current paid period.

Refunds. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable and partial periods are not refunded.

Gift years. You can buy one year of Handled for another person. A gift is a single payment, does not renew, and is applied to the recipient’s account when they sign in with the email address you gave. An unclaimed gift stays available. Gift payments are non-refundable except where required by law.

Changes. We may change prices or plan features; we will give you notice before a price change affects you, and you may cancel if you do not agree.

10.Third-party services

The Service works with third parties you choose, such as cloud-storage providers, email providers, and payment processors. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and Handled is not responsible for them. The Handled shop is operated by Fourthwall; purchases there are governed by Fourthwall’s terms and returns policy. You are responsible for complying with the terms of any account you connect.

11.Intellectual property

Handled and its licensors own all rights in the Service, including the Handled name and brand, the "Ella" character and artwork, the software, designs, and content we provide (excluding Your Content). We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your own household use under these Terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service or our brand without our written permission.

12.Privacy

Our handling of your information is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. We are privacy-first by design: we minimize what we hold, and we do not sell your personal information. Where your documents are stored is described in section 4 above.

13.Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any AI output, reminder, summary, or record will be accurate, timely, complete, or fit for any purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you use the Service at your own risk. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some of the above may not apply to you.

14.Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Handled and its owners, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, savings, goodwill, or for any missed deadline, reliance on AI output, or inability to access Your Content. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid Handled for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD $50. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you, and you may have additional rights.

15.Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Handled from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms or any law, or your infringement of anyone's rights, including any content you capture or store without the right to do so.

16.Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; Your Content in your own storage remains yours, and we will delete the metadata we hold in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

17.Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you (for example, in the app or by email) and update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

18.Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Texas, unless applicable law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere. Nothing in these Terms limits any non-waivable rights you have under the consumer-protection laws of your home jurisdiction.
