No answers match that word. Try another, or contact Handled.

Where do your files actually live?

Handled sends your emailed or scanned documents to your personal cloud account (Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive).

A cloud account is storage in your own name, online. Handled works with Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive, and you may already have one. If you don’t, all three offer a free account: Drive comes with a free Google account, Dropbox Basic is free, and OneDrive comes with a free Microsoft account.

Handled isn’t affiliated with Google, Dropbox, or Microsoft, and makes nothing when you connect one.

Handled creates a single folder called Handled in your cloud account and sends your documents there. Handled does not keep the document itself.

How does Handled organize and save your files?
Each uploaded or emailed document is stored and organized in folders and subfolders with tags. Adding multiple tags to files makes it easier for Handled to locate them.
How do documents get into Handled?
Upload a file to the Handled app from your phone or forward an email to your private Handled address. No mailbox connection, logins, or passwords required.
How does the private email address work?
After you sign up, Handled creates a unique, private forward address just for you. Forward an email or attachment there and it lands in your Inbox for review. Nothing files without your OK. It’s inbound-only; no mailbox to connect to and no password to share.
Is Handled actually private?

Yes. We built Handled for privacy, and you don’t have to take our word for it. Here’s what that means in plain words, with the bit of code behind each promise.

Handled sends your files to your cloud, not ours.
When you connect Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive, documents you add from your device go straight into a Handled folder in your own cloud, and that folder is all Handled can see. Anything you forward by email waits in a private holding area for up to 7 days, until you review it and it moves into the same folder. We keep only what helps you find things again: the title, the dates, a short summary, and a pointer to where Handled filed it.

Verified in the code: an upload from your device goes straight from your browser to your own cloud, over an encrypted connection, without passing through Handled. Handled saves the details and a pointer. A forwarded attachment sits in a private holding area that deletes itself after 7 days.

Your files open only through your account.
Your documents aren’t sitting at a public web link. Every time one is opened, Handled checks on its own servers that it’s yours, then hands back a link that works for a few minutes and then stops. Access always runs through that check.

Verified in the code: an open request carries a document id, never a file location, and the server confirms the document is yours before it makes a short-lived link.

Forwarding email keeps your privacy.
You get your own private Handled address to forward things to. Handled never connects to your inbox, and it never stores who emailed you. It keeps a scrambled, one-way fingerprint of the sender, and only so it doesn’t file the same thing twice.

Verified in the code: the sender is stored as a salted one-way hash. The real address is never saved, and Handled never connects to your mailbox.

Your account is walled off from everyone else’s.
Every document, reminder, and note is locked to your account. A request returns only your own records.

Verified in the code: row-level security is on every kind of record, so a request can only ever return your own.

Ella helps you sort.
Ella reads a document to name it, sort it, and summarize it for you. Handled never sells your data.

Verified in the code: the AI step is limited to naming, sorting, and summarizing, and it can’t reach anything outside Handled’s own storage.

A few more things, all in your hands.
You can strip the hidden location and camera data from your photos before they upload. You choose for each upload. You can lock Handled with your face or your fingerprint.

Verified in the code: metadata stripping is available for each upload, and app lock is built in.

Can you add second-factor authentication to sign in?

Sign in with Google, Microsoft, Facebook, or Apple, and turn on two-step verification in that account. That account’s own security then applies when you sign in to Handled.

You can also lock Handled with Face ID or your fingerprint in Settings → Security.

What does Handled cost?

Try Handled with 15 free scans, no card required. Then, pick the plan that fits your needs.

  • Standard: $18/month or $129/year with 50 AI scans a month
  • Pro: $36/month or $258/year with 100 monthly scans

Every feature is in both, and you’re never billed for overage. Cancel anytime in the app.

Need more scans in a busy month? On a paid plan you can add a scan pack: 50 more AI scans for $20, charged once. Your plan’s monthly scans are used first. Pack scans expire if your plan ends. Buy a pack in the app, in Settings under Plan.

How does the free trial work?
Try Handled free for 14 days with 15 AI scans. No card is needed to start, and nothing charges automatically. The 14 days begin when you sign up. The trial ends when the 14 days are up or the 15 scans are used, whichever comes first. Handled then pauses until you pick a plan. What you filed remains yours.
What are “tamper-evident” records?

Handled gives you the option to save files with a time-stamp and a SHA-256 hash, so you can show a file hasn’t changed since you saved it.

It’s a record-keeping tool, not legal advice, and we don’t claim court-admissibility.

Does Handled give medical or legal advice?
No. Handled organizes your documents and appointments and can create optional task lists to help you get ready. Ella isn’t a doctor or a lawyer, and AI can make mistakes, so always confirm the details before saving and rely on the professionals for advice. You’re responsible for the accuracy of your appointment details.
What happens to your data if you cancel?

Canceling doesn’t move, change, or delete your files. Documents sent to your own Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive stay yours.

What happens to your files if Handled ever shuts down?
Nothing. Handled doesn’t keep your files. Handled sends them to your own cloud, and they are yours.
Does Handled offer emergency access to your trusted contacts?
You can name trusted contacts and send them a password-locked emergency file of what matters from Settings → Emergency access.
Does Handled delete files from your cloud?
Handled is not designed to delete anything from your cloud. Here is how the code handles it, plainly.
  • What Handled is built to ask your cloud to do. Handled talks to Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive by sending instructions. The instructions in Handled’s code are: create a folder, add a file, read a file, rename a file, move a file, and update the index file Handled keeps at the top of your Handled folder. There is no instruction in Handled’s code that asks your cloud to delete a file, delete a folder, or empty a trash or recycle bin.
  • When you delete a document in Handled. Handled removes its own record of the document, then asks your cloud to move the file into a folder called Deleted Handled Files, inside your Handled folder. The file is yours to keep, move, or remove. If Handled kept a separate untouched original, that original is not moved.
  • If your cloud can’t be reached at that moment. Handled tells you and does not move it, with a button that takes you straight to it.
  • When you delete your Handled account. Handled removes the records it holds about you. It sends no instruction to your cloud.
  • Where Handled’s access ends. Handled’s access covers only the Handled folder in your cloud. Files outside that folder are not reachable by Handled.
What this does not promise. Your cloud account is yours, and Handled does not control it. A file can be removed by you, by someone else with access to your account, or by your cloud provider, and software can have bugs. Keep the originals of anything you scan or forward, plus your own backups.
Should you keep the original documents you scan or forward?
Yes, please do. Handled organizes your files, but it isn’t a backup service. Always keep the originals of anything you scan or send in, plus your own backups, so you’re never relying on a single copy.
How much information does Handled collect about you?
As little as possible. Handled sends your files to your own cloud, not ours, and we keep only what helps you find things: a title, type, date, and a secure hash. Handled never sells your data.
